The game of padel as a family sport.
Learning how to play padel
Our outlook on the sport is always the same, although we vary the basic rules, that is, even if we are not a pair against each other and we are going to play two friends, our attitude will always be to put ourselves on the opposite side of the court and try to win a point. In the case that we are two people with the same physical and technical skills, we can develop an enjoyable and competitive exercise, although when these conditions are different, the unevenness will result in a game that is not smooth and dynamic. Which is one of the main characteristics of the game of padel that have made this sport more famous and practised all over the world.
This situation of inequality occurs in family games, usually between a father and son who want to play a sport together and have a good time. To do this, we will now develop a series of exercises centred on the family enjoying the sport and independently developing qualities that will enable them to improve their padel game. It’s time to pick up a palu, a padel racket, to begin doing the series of exercises we are proposing:
– Players position themselves about three metres from the net and pass the ball between them, making sure that the ball always bounces in front of their teammate so that they can hit a controlled and easy shot in a real game situation. We should not kick without bouncing, but always move towards the ball and into a natural kicking position. It is very important to control the force, the stronger the stronger the less control we have over the situation. We are close to each other, so we make a weak shot to give the opponent time to react.
– The dominant player throws the ball with his hand and the receiver tries to get the ball back into his hands each time. This is the beginning level where the receiving player should have an easier time with the kick and gain confidence. Approximately four metres from the net. It’s better to do it with one ball, if we have a lot of them, we don’t concentrate on not losing it, not looking for it, given the task of not picking it up, we sharpen our senses so we don’t lose control.
– Players will be positioned about five metres from the net and pass the ball as in the previous exercise. The distance is greater, so the control of the ball should increase. To do this, we will continue with a low speed to control the shot and so that our reaction speed does not decrease.
– The players will be seven metres from the net, i.e. behind the service line, in a real match situation. The distance is slightly longer than in the previous exercise, so we have to be more careful when hitting and controlling the ball. This is a prelude to the actual reallie in the match, so we must move continuously, try to hit and return to the waiting position very quickly. We will continue to hit soft shots, taking control of the situation, and step up the speed to continue to progress in our passing game.
– Alternately, on each side of the court, it’s about the same previous exercise but hitting with only two partners or vice versa. This increases our control over the ball as our objective space is reduced and we have to concentrate more and speed up our shots so that they always go where we want them to go. It is very important that situations are controlled, as this is not a competition, we are always interested in executing the shots correctly so that when we repeat we progress, so at least on an uncontrolled ball it is better to stop the ball and take it out of a controlled situation.
As we have seen, very few technical remarks are made about the execution of kicks, because we want these actions to be seen as a kind of co-operative game to enjoy the sporting practice. To learn how to play padel and improve the efficiency of your game, it is best to put yourself in the hands of qualified professionals to continue improving. These actions are not only performed by parents and children, as they can be performed if we find two unequal levels: between father or mother or between our own brothers, in which the difference in strength is noticeable. We only have to put it into practice and enjoy the whole family the game of padel.
