Padel extends throughout North America
Padel is a sport that continues to spread around the world and has made the jump to the United States for some time. Since last year, there are several companies that have been contributing to this growth and building padel courts all over the area. So it’s no surprise that we’ll soon be able to see a plethora of head and other brand offerings of head and racquets there. This summer was the moment of complete boom and may growth of the sport in the American country.
The leading racquet sports company in this country, All Racquet Sports, has already started a new project to build several padel courts in Philadelphia. They will be located at a new clubhouse ten minutes from downtown at the Venice Island Recreation Centre. The company received 70 budget requests for its implementation. The intention was to build nine new courts and bring it to its peak. These facilities have the name padelfia.
Already in January last year, they held a grand event for a few days as an official presentation to popularise the game of padel in the United States. In doing so, they intended that companies would see the business opportunities in the sport and thus be able to expand it across the country, in addition to informing and making people aware.
In this event, participants had the opportunity to try racquets, balls and various accessories to enter the world of the game of padel. To make more progress in this growth, Adidas Padel Academy has completed several certification courses to have new padel game specialists. Thus, in the coming months, they will continue to train new coaches so that they can teach the game of padel across the American country.
There are about two hundred and seventy five thousand tennis courts in the United States, so the company is looking for a way to utilise this already built floor to turn it into padel courts. Once this is achieved, they will have to continue training coaches, for which they are starting to offer a special training programme for tennis teachers. The AFP Academy is promoting a programme to do this after the success of the first edition, which trained five technicians. Coaches who had previously been involved in tennis were pleasantly satisfied in this first edition.
On the other hand, the same brand wants to continue building courts this time in the state of Orlando, next to the headquarters of the American tennis association, the United States Tennis Association (USTA). Here, together with All Racquets Sports, they want to add a clubhouse and training centre in one of the newest areas of the city. The youngest people in the city are moving into the area, so they see them as a possible demand market.
This way the youngest can come up and get interested in this new growing sport in the country and the world. With this new project they want to analyse the market entry from the first contact with the game of padel, both professionals and future amateur players.
In the long term, they intend to present themselves as a student sport and create a league between the main universities in the country. In the United States, this type of practice allows players to earn athletic scholarships and strengthen the game of padel among new generations.
The only aspect in which the drivers of this expansion project still have some doubts is the forecast of racquet sales. It is still risky to give an approximate sales figure. But once courts are created and new and new courses are offered for the game of padel, new shops will appear in the country and sales will increase.
In Spain, the game of padel is so developed that there are already shops specialising only in the sport, as in the case of New Padel.
The game of padel has a very promising future in the United States, as it has seen a very rapid growth worldwide since its invention. It currently has about twelve million players in 78 countries and 35 federations. Among the countries where it is most developed are Spain, Argentina or Mexico. But its continuing boom in the rest of Europe is unstoppable. It also looks very promising in the United States, so it would not be surprising to see it at the next Olympic Games. The International Padel Federation has already submitted their request recently, and they expect a response in the coming weeks.
