Padel and its practice in the city
Padel and its practice as one of the most popular sports in the city.
Sport is undoubtedly a set of physical exercises performed in the form of individual or group games that can lead to competition, but for many it is primarily a source of enjoyment. Nowadays, we are increasingly involved in sports because it benefits our health, allows us to socialise, compete… and with the increase in population in cities, the sports we can practise are becoming more and more important. But what do Spaniards practise the most?

In terms of the level of practice and type, we must distinguish between those that require a federal licence and those that are practised to stay in shape and maintain health. In Spain, in the latest 2024 census prepared by the INE, the number of federation licences stood at 3,761, with an annual increase of almost 10%, according to the latest Márcete report approved by the CSD. Thus, after football, which ranks first in terms of the number of federal licences, other sports are also practised, such as padel, with an increase in the level of practice year after year.
The evolution in the significant increase in licences and practitioners of padel contrasts with the year-on-year decrease in tennis practitioners, with a large transfer of players between these sports. Similarly, padel has a high representation of women, with 29% of players and 32% of sports licences, and a large number of adults and veterans (35-65 years old).
In terms of equipment, the products that Spaniards have most in their homes are bicycles, followed by balls and rackets in third place, which we include for playing padel. In fourth and fifth place, we would have fitness equipment and mountain gear, respectively, to close this group.
From time to time, compare the equipment you have in your homes with the number of federations and practitioners, which is noticeable in the sports we develop for leisure.
Currently, Catalonia has the largest number of federated players and those who practise padel, followed by Madrid, Valencia and Andalusia in terms of the number of federated licences.
